Event Overview

Before we code with the flow at SpringOne on September 1-2, we want to go deep on digital empathy and the developer experience. So we’re getting together a group of leaders to add another building block to your digital transformation journey. That’s right: The Tanzu Executive Series is back! Join us on August 31 for a custom, hands-on workshop led by bestselling author and digital empathy expert, Erica Dhawan.

More than ever, we live in a world of endless meetings, emails, and constant cross-team dysfunction, duplication, and delays. Ambiguous text messages. Email replies that show up a week later. Video chats full of, “Oops...sorry, no, you go” and “Can you hear me?!” Is it any wonder communication takes us so much time and effort to figure out? How did we lose our innate capacity to understand each other? Humans rely on body language to connect and build trust, but with most of our communication happening from behind a screen, traditional body language signals are no longer visible—or are they? In this interactive workshop, Erica Dhawan will introduce you to the key skills of Connectional Intelligence and Digital Body Language, which make up critical ways to deepen empathy as leaders, for the developer experience, and across silos in our organizations.

In person, we lean in, uncross our arms, smile, nod, and make eye contact to show we listen and care. Online, reading carefully is the new listening; writing clearly is the new empathy. And a phone or video call is worth a thousand emails. In this workshop, Erica Dhawan, author of the new book, Digital Body Language, will supercharge your leadership and teams with collectively understood rules that foster connection, build trust, and drive innovation.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Understand your collaboration style and the digital empathy signals (or lack of) you may be broadcasting (even if you don't intend to!)
  • Create cultures of true cross silo collaboration across email, phone, IM, text, video, and even hybrid meetings
  • Develop a collaboration strategy that fosters valuable relationships, as leaders, with developers and across all business functions
  • End cultures of useless meetings, missed deadlines, and digital misunderstandings

  2. Using any boisterous, lewd, or offensive behavior or language; using sexually explicit or offensive language or conduct; using profanity, obscene gestures, or racial, religious, homophobic, transphobic, or ethnic slurs; commenting about a person’s body or sexual activity; and discussing sexual activity.

  4. Participating in any other illegal activity not already covered above.

Consequences of unacceptable behavior
